Where do I start? How do I talk about this?

For many survivors of sexual assault telling their story in some form is an important part of their recovery. Speaking about your experience, although painful and difficult, is an integral part of regaining control over your life. Although talking to someone about the current impacts of the abuse on you will not resolve all the issues, it will enable the healing process to begin. The timing is your choice, and it is important that you decide to talk to someone when you are feeling ready. Accessing support may assist in overcoming some of the feelings of shame, humiliation and powerlessness that are often associated with the trauma of this crime.
