Can I still report this?
There is no statute of limitations on reporting past or historical sexual offences. You can still report it to police and/or make a statement to the Sexual Offences Investigative Team (Socit) of the police about what you do recall, who you first told or what support you accessed at the time. Sexual assault is one of the most under reported crimes in Australia and many victim/survivors do not report because they fear they will not be believed or for fear of the repercussions on their family or relationships. As many as 80% of victims of sexual assault know their attackers in some way, making it more difficult for survivors to speak out about this crime and/or report it to police.
